The Neighborhood

Once filled with vacant warehouses and empty storefronts, one of Saint Paul's oldest stretches is now a hotbed for restaurants and breweries. It's where you'll find staple dining spots like Mancini's Char House and Lounge and Cossetta's, go-to Minnesota Wild pregame spots like Tom Reid's and Seventh Street Truck Park, along with local craft brewers Summit Brewing Co., Bad Weather Brewing and Keg and Case Market, a massive culinary and retail funhouse located in the former Schmidt Brewing space.

Swank Amenities

Challenge your neighbor to a game of darts. Join a bubble hockey tournament. Hit the high score on an old school arcade game or just have a drink and hang with friends or neighbors in the always available, always lively Club ALVERA.

Sprint into a new day or salute the sunset in a state-of-the-art fitness center, featuring the best in cardio and strength equipment, boxing gear and defined spaces to practice yoga or stretch in comfort.

Aaron De La Cruz’s artist statement

Alvera spent her life caring and creating art projects for the people living in the buildings her family built. Aaron De La Cruz felt this large work would be a great way to keep that spirit of care alive, by designing a work that wraps the entire building. He chose his “Zera” style (influenced by the weaving threads of a Mexican serape blanket) because it symbolizes this original inspiration: the feeling of being wrapped in care. The nearby healthcare facilities and hospitality industry in the neighborhood are acknowledged through this theme. Negative space is also common in De La Cruz’s work, through the spaces untouched by linework the story is half-told and letting the viewer’s imagination participate in completing the narrative. The mural celebrates craftsmanship, labor, culture, and fun– ideas related to many of the key destinations in the area. Aaron’s hope is that the vibrant, creative community around the site finds inspiration, joy, and comfort in the mural.
